Palladian window

A large, arch-top window flanked by smaller windows on each side. 

 

Pane

A framed sheet of glass within a window or door frame. 

 

Parting stop

A narrow strip, either integral or applied, that olds a sash or panel in position in a window or door frame. 

 

Precision FitŪ Double-Hung Window

A fully assembled double-hung that slides easily into the existing sash pocket of your old double-hung with no damage to wallpaper, paint or plaster. For use in replacement applications only. 

Panel
A major component of a sliding glass window/door, consisting of a light of glass in a frame installed within the main (or outer) frame of the window/door. A panel may be sliding or fixed.

Picture window
A picture window that does not move or operate.

Plumb
A position or measurement that is truly and exactly vertical, 90° from a level surface.

Positive Lock
Area below the nailing hem that the buttlock locks into.

Profile
Describes the design of the panel (Clapboard, Dutch lap, Triple 3, etc.)

Pilot Hole
A drilled hole that is no larger than the body of the screw (minus the threads).  

Pivot Pins
The pins on the bottom corners of single- or double-hung sashes that engage the balance and also allow the sash to pivot for easy removal and installation.  

Prehung Door Unit
A precut and assembled unit consisting of a door with the locking or passage hardware hung on hinges in a wood frame.  

Prime Coat
The first coat of paint in an application that consists of two or more coats.  

Prime Coat Finish
A hardware finish of baked enamel intended for a later application of paint.
